2011-12 Executive Board Members / Officers

Robin Spillias, President

I am the proud mother of a wonderful fifth grader. Two years ago was my first full year experiencing the PTSA. I volunteered at a few events the previous year, but felt the need to get more involved as my daughter got a little older. As Health & Safety chair two years ago, I became entrenched in developing and building on the already great programming for our kids. In my presidency this year I hope to build on the successes that Kasey Chapin, and presidents in the past, have dedicated their time and hearts and souls. I believe in the PTSA and its impact it has on our school. This year we are focusing on Promoting Total Student Achievement and shaping more educational enrichment opportunities for our secondary students. I welcome new members to put your volunteer hat on and see how fulfilling it can be to help your child’s school reach its full potential. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, "Speak little, do much!"

Michele Carruthers, Treasurer

I am a new member to the board, but have been an active volunteer for PTSA activities and in the classroom through the years. My daughter is in 6th grade, and my son is in 3rd. Really enjoying getting to know the members, and sharing ideas. I am a "On-Demand" mother/wife who resides in Southwood. I am honored to work with this talented group of parents on the PTSA Board and am looking forward to working with other parents and staff in the FSUS community.

Dawn Jimenez, 1st Vice President,
Programs Chair

Dawn is a second-year board member who has been a member of the PTSA since 2007. She has a background in corporate management and currently works for the Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Mother of two girls, Alyssa and Gabriela, Dawn has served as a volunteer in numerous FSUS activities and programs. She states, "It’s a ton of fun! Even if they don’t act like it, your kids really DO want to see you on and around campus!" As program chair, Dawn is implementing programs that promote the well being and success of students, faculty and staff at FSUS.

Brandi Gesibert, 2nd Vice President, Membership Chair

Brandi started volunteering for the PTSA 5 years ago. Last year was her first year as a member and as the Health and Safety Co-Chair. While serving in this position she was able to find out more about the PTSA and the important role we play as advocates for our children. This experience lead her to her current position; 2nd Vice President, Membership Chair. Being a member of the PTSA is extremely important and rewarding to her. She is an extremely proud mother to Avonlea(15).

Alicia Cherry , 3rd Vice President, Fundraising Chair

I am currently the fundraising Chair and have had this position for the last 2 years. Previously I was the Co-Chair of fundraising and have been involved in fundraising since my daughter started school at FSUS in 2005. I am also the Co-Chair for the Box Tops and Labels program and have been in this position for 6 years. I am the proud mother to my daughter, Taylor, who is in 7th grade and has a passion for and plays soccer! I am a stay at home Mom and wife and this has given me the opportunity to give my time helping out at school with different activities and continuing to work with PTSA. I have been very fortunate to get to know so many wonderful people who enjoy helping our school.

Evie Crosby, Recording Secretary

I’m a first-year member of the PTSA, excitedly embarking on my first year of FSUS parenthood! I am the proud mom of a kindergartner, Wyatt, as well as a sassy three-year-old, Leah Rose. I quickly joined the PTSA, with hopes of being involved with my child’s school to help make his learning experience the richest it can be — both in and out of the classroom. I also serve as the PTSA room parent for his class. My background is in organizational development and planning, performance improvement, and strategic communications/marketing. It’s an honor to serve on the board; I’m looking forward to a fantastic year!

Janice Steibly, Corresponding Secretary

Janice Browning Steibly is the proud mother of three boys. Connor (10) and Thomas (8) both attend FSUS and Nicholas (3) is in preschool. Janice has been a proud member of FSUS PTSA since her oldest began kindergarten in 2006. More recently, Janice left full-time employment with the State of Florida to work from home and be a full-time mom, which afforded her the opportunity to take a more active role with PTSA. She served as Reading Programs Chair in 2010-2011 and is currently serving as Corresponding Secretary. Janice and her husband Todd are both Florida State University alumni. She holds a B.S. in Political Science and a M.S. in Public Administration and worked over 15 years with state government administering several state and federal grant programs and handling legislative affairs. Janice looks forward to another fun-filled year working with FSUS PTSA!
