Legacy Project

Dear FSUS Family ~

In my last term as your PTSA President I have chosen a “legacy project” that will divvy out ALL of the proceeds to EVERY club on campus at FSUS! It’s our way of supporting those cool activities, and the sponsors & students who are involved.

We will host the Silent Auction during the International Association of Lab Schools Conference March 28-30th. FSUS is the national host school and we are happy to partner and highlight our wonderful school to the over 200 national attendees.

Can you help us BUILD our auction inventory by donating a gift card – any amount – from one of the national chains listed below. Simply send in the card with the above “click here” form and deliver to the front office or the PTSA by March 21st .

Together we can have a successful auction! I appreciate your help … please contact me with any questions or other auction ideas or donations.

Appreciatively,
Robin

Lost and Found: The Treasure Cove

Ahoy !!  The PTSA has teamed up with Girl Scout Troop 195 with a new and improved LOST AND FOUND at FSUS!

“The Treasure Cove” chest … “Where Your Lost is Found” is located outside of the Tomahawk Cafeteria  (face the doors and look left).

Items are tagged weekly and put into a monthly donation rotation.

What does this mean?

Items found in the last MONTH were tagged BLUE and were recently donated to The Chealsea House The next color cycle is PINK … those items are being donated next week!!   Then WHITE, then GREEN. With this system, owners have 30 days to claim their items.  Marked items will be sent to the child’s classroom or parents notified for pick-up.  Questions? Contact Robin, 210.3818, robinspillias@embarqmail.com

FSUS Dads Events

The FSUS Dads group hosted a well attended Valentine’s Day Donuts for Dads and Muffins for Mom event. Thank you to everyone (~200 Dads, Moms and kids!) who participated at this early morning event! Our next event will be “grill” related so we are asking FSUS Dads to volunteer their services.  More details will be sent out later in the month as the event is planned for April. (Visit Real Men Cook, www.realmencook.com for inspiration)Until then, FSUS Dads are encouraged to participate in the playground maintenance events and with supporting their children through participation at school functions.

Why do we want FSUS Dads at school?

Research by the National Center for Education Statistics indicates that a father’s involvement “exerts a distinct and independent influence” on a child’s success in school.
What, then, are the benefits of father involvement? When fathers are involved in school, their children:
? Learn more.
? Perform better in school.
? Exhibit healthier behavior.
? Have fewer discipline problems.
? Are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities.
? Enjoy school more.*

Besides, everyone appreciates seeing Dads and other father figures on campus!

Do you want to be more involved?  Express your interest to serve on the FSUS PTSA board or on committees (like FSUS Dads) that help plan events and provide opportunities at school.See you at FSUS!

Garnet Gold and Green Committee

The PTSA Garnet Gold and Green Committee has finished with tree planting for the year.  We planted a total of 18 trees around campus, all native species that are designed to grow into big shade trees over the years.  This brings the total number of trees planted by the PTSA to 81 trees over the last five years.  The trees planted this year include swamp chestnut, laurel oak, white oak, nutall oak, shumard oak, tulip poplar, live oak, sour gum, magnolia, sycamore, red cedar, sugar maple, mulberry, pecan, and basswood.  Thanks to Native Nurseries and Mack Brothers Landscaping Nursery for helping make this possible.

We have also been active in recycling, continuing to recycle the leftover cooking oil from the concession stands into biofuel.  We have also been recycling thousands of plastic bottles and aluminum cans in the 25 recycling barrels the PTSA has placed around campus, and sponsored a morning announcement reminding kids these are for bottles and cans only, not regular trash.
