Dear FSUS Families,
Since November is the traditional time to appreciate our blessings, let me take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has joined FSUS PTSA this year and who has given their time to support our activities.
A huge thank you goes to our faculty! This is a record year for teacher memberships. Another huge thank you to our FSUS families! We had more participation from middle and high school families for our fall fundraiser than ever before. A huge thank you to our Executive Board for all their time, effort and planning! A huge thank you to our hard-working Committee Chairs!
New committees like Family Fun Nights have held Spirit Nights at Beef O'Brady's and Chick-Fil-A and are planning some great new events. Our Recycling Committee has distributed new containers on campus and is working with existing recycling efforts to make our campus more environmentally aware and responsible. Our Reading Programs Committee is back and working on a new Reading Challenge for the elementary kids. Our Health & Safety Committee is working hard on the school gardens and on rescheduling the Bike Rodeo. We are also looking forward to our developing Room Parents program.
Our volunteers are the best and whether they are distributing fundraising products or tending to our school garden they are worth their weight in gold! I know many of you are hoping for an opportunity to volunteer. November will provide many chances from helping collect food for the Second Harvest to working at the Thanksgiving Luncheon.
Please know that you are an important member of the FSUS PTSA team supporting our students, teachers, staff and administrators.
We're all in this together!.

Second Harvest Food Drive - Nov. 3rd-7th
|
What can one can do? Starting on Monday, November 3rd, the PTSA will begin its Second Harvest Fall Food Drive. Students may bring in nutritious, non=perishable items to their 1st period class for collection.
These items will benefit families in the area whose children have been chosen for the Back Pack Program. At the end of each week, these student receive a "back pack" full of food items to carry them through the weekend.
Consider giving at least one can..more if you are able. Last Fall, almost 1,000 lbs of food was collected. Last Spring, nearly 1,300 lbs. How about 1,600 for this Fall?
Show us what you're made of Florida High!
Want to sign up to help on collection Friday at 8:30 am? Click here.

Health & Safety Committee Update
School Gardens
The garden project is going strong with 21 kids enjoying this wonderful fall weather and planting vegetables and herbs. So far, we've planted broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, brussels sprouts, onions, carrots, spinach, collards, radishes, lettuce and cabbage, along with some herbs. The kids have finished the planting stage and are now weeding, mulching and nurturing the crop, with maturation expected sometime in December.
Thanks to the parent volunteers Susan Brodbeck, Kristin Scovera, Cheryl Dippre, Irene Bivins, and Paul Driggers for making this project a success. Thanks also to the members of the Middle School Builder's Club who have been helping the kids with the planting.
Bike Rodeo
The Bike Rodeo was canceled at the last minute due to the fact the FSU Police Department, the centerpiece of the event, could not make it at the designated time. This fun and educational event will be rescheduled for sometime in the Spring.
Tree Planting
The Health and Safety Committee plans to purchase several trees for planting around campus this winter. This will be done to both beautify the campus and to provide shade for sun protection in spots like the playground, baseball and softball bleachers, and high jump pit area of the track where no shade now exists. We will also spend some time enriching the soil around the trees the PTSA has already planted. Anyone interested in helping with this project should e-mail Danni Vogt or call 877-5641.
Health and Safety Fair
Initial planning for the annual event is beginning and a tentative date for the fair has been set for Thursday March 26, 2009, the Thursday before Spring Break.
